Introduction
In 2008 Bank J. Van Breda & Co decided to replace their bespoke core banking system by a new system. At the mean time Bank J. Van Breda & Co wanted to improve the efficiency of the business processes that before that where paper driven, error-prone and time consuming. Bank J. Van Breda & Co evaluated different package solution but none of them could fullfill the expections. Therefore Bank J. Van Breda & Co decided to build a complete new core banking application from scratch. Bank J. Van Breda & Co choose for a phased approach where the project was split up in 5 main phases. To limit the risk every phase is set up to be benificial and useable by itselve.
Business Challenge
At least 50% of the visits with clients are on location, outside the branch. The aim was to create an application that made it possible to directy handle all front office transactions (creating customers, opening accounts, selling or buying funds, request creditcards....) and get rid of all steps in the business processes that didn't add any value.
Solution
To solve the problem of remote working Bank J. Van Breda & Co decided to use mobile internet. To support the sales process Bank J. Van Breda & Co decided to use tablet pc's. Simulation tools can be used together with the client.
A more difficult problem was the signing of documents. The document is created on demand, when needed, based on the data entered in the application. It is presented on the tablet pc and the client has two options to legally sign the contract. The first one is by using their electronic identiy card, the second one is by signing with the 'pen' on the tablet pc. After signing this document, the client gets a copy by mail, the document is archived and the process is finished, in 90% of the cases without any additional intervention.
Results Achieved
At this moment the account managers are able to create new customers, open accounts, make up a financial plan, sell/buy funds with the new application. By the end of the summer 90% off all commercial transactions will be supported by the new application. Although the radical change all users, commercial and backoffice where very enthousiastic about the possiblities and opportunities of the new application.
At this moment Bank J. Van Breda & Co using this new application was a radical change in the way the had to work, all account managers where very enthousiastic. At this moment up to 70% of the documents generated by the new application are electronically signed. This is an enormous improvement in efficiency.
